Nearest Underground - Aldgate EastWe are delighted to welcome Whitechapel Society committee member Sue Parry who will be giving a talk on the Polstead murder of Maria Marten in 1827. Sue will tell us about the research that she has done and why this particular murder interests her so much. The story has all the vital ingredients of sex, death, disguise and psychic powers and the talk will be well illustrated with images both past and present.

1888 - London Murders in the Year of the Ripper

In 1888 Jack the Ripper made headlines with a series of horrific murders that remain unsolved to this day. But most killers are not shadowy figures stalking the streets with a lust for blood, many are ordinary citizens driven to the ultimate crime by circumstance, a fit of anger or a desire for revenge. Their crimes, overshadowed by the few sensational cases, are ignored, forgotten or written off.

He is mentioned or appears in films and television programs as diverse as The Simpsons, M*A*S*H, Goodnight Sweetheart, Star Trek and Shanghai Knights, in addition to films and television dramas devoted to solving the mystery of the killings including Time After Time, From Hell, and Murder by Decree.
