It is with immense pleasure that the Whitechapel Society will be organising a one day symposium "The East End of Annie Chapman". In recent decades, the historical study of the East End has become a significant topic within social history and criminology. In this, our first One Day Symposium, we will bring together Social Historians and Criminologists in an event that will be organised around themed keynote addresses and roundtable discussions.

The key aim is to address the inter-disciplinary engagement between East End social history and criminology around the time of the Whitechapel Murders. The date of this event is also siginifcant as it falls on the 124th anniversary of Annie Chapman's death - one of the victims in the series of crimes comitted by Jack the Ripper.
